The actor who brought Captain Jean-Luc Picard to life in Star Trek: The Next Generation will add another title to his list of honors: “Sir,” according to the Mirror.
Parick Stewart, who is said to be a favorite of the Queen, has been included in the New Year’s Honours list. The 69-year-old actor is being recognized for his 50 years of work in stage, film and television.
Stewart, called “a die-hard Labourite,” was born in Mirfield, Yorkshire, the son of a weaver and an army sergeant major.
He left school at the age of 15 to become a reporter, but spent so much of his time at rehearsals with a local drama group that his boss/editor said he had to choose between the two. Stewart left journalism and became an actor.
Stewart turned his baldness into an advantage when directors it would cost him parts. He wore a toupee for auditions and promised “two actors for the price of one.”
No date has yet been released for the ceremony.
Star Trek: The Next Generation debuted on television in the States in 1987, and then began airing in the U.K. the following year. The show went on for seven series/seasons, winning numerous awards and was nominated for an Emmy in its final year. The crew went on to make four motion pictures together.
