Singer Reveals X-Men: First Class
Written by Ian Cullen on December 22, 2009 – 9:00 am -At tail end of the week director Bryan Singer let it be known that he’s signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to direct the planed X-Men: First Class movie, which is an origin movie for the team of characters led by the enigmatic Professor X.
In a more recent interview with Variety, Singer revealed a few plot points of the movie, and said the new movie will centre on a younger Professor Xavier and his enemy Magneto. This new information possibly rules out the use of Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen in the roles, which they originated for the first three movies.
Apparently the new movie will take much of its inspiration from the recent Star Trek Prequel movie as well as the rebooted Batman franchise, which started with Batman Begins, and won much critical and popular acclaim with Batman: Dark Knight.
“Whether it’s Batman, Lord Of The Rings or Star Trek, if the characters are good, you want to see them on their journey even if you know their destiny. I put myself in the fan’s position, and I think this story is something I would want to see, and so will they.”
20th Century Fox has also enlisted screenwriter Jamie Moss (Street Kings) to rework Josh Schwartz’s initial script.
