Warner Bros are reportedly planning a movie based on the popular DC Comics Hero Hawkman. To date Hawkman has only ever really appeared in the animated Justice League television series, and will soon make an appearance in Smallville, in which Michael Shanks will play the role.
A source told Pajiba that the project is to be “part Indiana Jones, part Da Vinci Code and part Ghost”.
At present a director, screenwriter and lead actor are as yet to be attached.
In the DC Universe Hawkman is a person who straps artificial wings to his back in order to fight crime and is usually accompanied by Hawkgirl or Hawkwoman. However this origin story has been tinkered with over the years for the purposes of television and animation. For example we see a Hawkman who is loosley based on the silver age version in the popular Justice League cartoon series for the season two finale. In the episode Hawkman is the leader of the Thanagarian forces, and has used Hawkgirl as a scout on Earth.
So it will be interesting to see what what kind of tac Warner Bros take with the storyline for a proposed feature.
