The Doctors Daughter Speaks (Mild Spoilers)
Written by Ian Cullen on May 2, 2008 – 2:43 pm -Before reading any further I must warn you that a mild spoiler is within the text below, so if you are against spoilers read no further.
It seems that the new series of Doctor Who continues to entertain and pose new questions to viewers. The most notable of which is since when did the Doctor find time to have himself a daughter?
Well in the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine Georgia Moffett the real life daughter of the 5th Doctor Peter Davison talked a little about her role in episode six of ‘Doctor Who’ season 4 as ‘The Doctors Daughter’ Jenny.
Moffett revealed a few minor spoilers about the episode when she revealed that the Doctor, Martha, Donna and her character of Jenny come into contact with some rather Alien race called ‘The Hath’ who are half fish half humanoid and communicate through bubbles.
Sounds fascinating, but what sounds even better is Moffett’s obvious enthusiasm for what many would call the role of a life time.
“I didn’t believe it when I got offered it. I still don’t believe it now, on my last day’s filming. The only time it’s really hit home was yesterday, when I got to say the immortal line: ‘Hello dad!’ I couldn’t believe I was saying that to Doctor Who’ I know I’m going to look back in two weeks and go, ‘Did I really just do that?’ If I had to write myself a part, and do things in it that I’ve always wanted to do, then I’d have written this episode of Doctor Who. Also, I’ve got to do things that I never thought I would. I never thought I’d be cast as a young action hero who weilds a machine gun. I don’t see myself like that at all. It’s ridiculously amazing.”
Aside from being able to live a few of her dreams through her acting. Moffett also got to work with perhaps one of the best actors currently working in the UK in the form of 10th Doctor David Tennant and was absolutely blown away by the experience.
“He’s an extraordinary actor. When you look at him, you sort of forget that you’re acting and a camera crew is there. You look into his eyes and it takes no acting on your part, other than to just look up at him and go, ‘God, yes, you are looking at your daughter.’ The absolute highlight for me was probably our final scene together… it’s the most amazing scene. Although,” she adds, ever so modestly, “I think that’s more down to David than down to me.”
At the moment there are no indications of if the Doctors Daughter will return in future episodes, however Moffett would certainly jump at the chance to play the role again if the opportunity came round.
“I’d come back tomorrow if they wanted me to. Absolutely. I’m not a fool! In fact, I’d just stay forever. No, I would absolutely come back, in a second. But whether or not they’d ask me… well, it’s sci – fi isn’t it? Anything can happen.”
You can read the full version of this interview as well as a bried report from the set of the episode in the current issue of Doctor Who Magazine.
