In a recent interview for Moviehole, Eric Christian Olsen revealed that he very nearly donned the red spandex suit for the movie version of the cult US Comedy Drama, The Greatest American Hero.

For those not familiar with the television series, The Greatest American Hero centred on a school teacher by the name of Ralph Hinkley, who comes into possession of an Alien created red suit with cape, which endows him with Super Powers.

In the series Ralph Hinkley who was somewhat of a reluctant hero was played by William Katt.

While chatting to the website 31 – year old Olsen who was geared up to play the role revealed that the deal fell through before he had chance to don the suit when production fell into financial difficulties.

“I booked that movie”, says Olsen, after I suggested he’d be good for it. “I went in for it right after Fired Up. They were like ‘This is our guy’ but they didn’t have financing in place. But yeah, I booked it – but because the budget was so huge they couldn’t get the money.”

The movie, which was going to be directed by Stephen Herek, who is better known for his work on the Bill and Ted movies, was originally scheduled to begin shooting last July.

Olsen revealed that it was a very funny script about a reluctant hero, and that he was looking forward to working with everyone on the film. “Then we get a phone call just as we were starting the deal to say they hadn’t got the financing. I’m not attached anymore”.

Loved the original series, but thought Ralph Hinkle was too clumsy. after suing it, he would have gotten a hand on it and wouldn’t need the instruction manual.
