Actor Alan Tudyk
Alan Tudyk who is well known to genre fans for his role in A Knights Tale, but better known as Hoban ‘Wash’ Washburne on the ill fated Firefly series, and subsequent movie Serenity told SciFi Wire and reporters that the new version will set peoples minds back to the original.
The Original V – Mini series was the work of prolific writer, producer and director Kenneth Johnson who is still at work trying to get things organized on his proposed movie adaptation of the series.
The new series, which deviates from the original’s premise somewhat also stars Tudyk’s former Firefly cast member Morena Baccarin as Leader of the Visitor invasion force Anna. A role, which is probably very similar to Jane Badler’s portrayal of Diana in the original.
When talking about the original V Mini series, Tudyk feels that the classic stands up fairly well, but like many things in the 70’s and 80’s looks a bit dated due to the advances in technology for visual FX.
When it comes to FX the actor revealed that no expense has been spared on bringing top notch Visual FX to the new series, and even mentioned yet another Firefly link to V.
“It’s really awesome effects,” he said. “The effects are done by Zoic, who did Firefly [in which Tudyk starred]. Zoic does all the spacecrafts. Anything requiring digital enhancement is Zoic, and they do a great job. Then, of course, Morena Baccarin is in it, and she’s the leader of the aliens, so you can’t get any better than that.”
Of course there will be no Firefly reunion on the set, and Tudyk doesn’t share any scenes with Baccarin in the pilot.
When asked to talk a little about the series Tudyk declined to comment, “I can say this,” he said. “It’s really good. I hope that they pick it up.”
At present the pilot episode for this re-imagined V series is awaiting a pick up from ABC.
Rounding out the cast of V are: Joel Gretsch (The 4400), Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost), Morris Chestnut (Half Past Dead) and Laura Vandervoort (Smallville).
