With barely a week to go before shooting starts on the second pilot episode for the American adaptation of Life On Mars – it was of the utmost importance to have all the cast members in place – and with all the male roles cast – the hunt was on to find a new Annie.

Taking her place alongside Jason O’Mara’s Sam Tyler will be Gretchen Mol who replaces Rachelle Lefevre as Annie Norris. Liz White originated the role of Annie in the original BBC series that was produced by Kudos Entertainment.

According to the TV Guide report Annie is a member of the Police Women’s Bureau – making do with the menial tasks. She is by far the smartest woman in the squad room – and the first person to realize that Sam Tyler can be an asset to the NYPD’s homicide division. Annie’s battle for equality will one day pave the way for Sam Tyler’s contemporary girlfriend Maya Daniels to join the force as an equal.

Gretchen Mol’s acting credits include a role alongside Matt Damon in the independent movie Rounders, Sweet And Low Down and more recently a role in Televisions – The Memory Keeper’s Daughter. – Matt Mitovich
