It looks like the tabloid press have forgot to reverse the polarity of the neutron flow, because now they’re reporting on rumours that Matt Smith could be making his first appearance in a Children In Need Special that will feature all eleven incarnations of The Doctor.
The Daily Mirror, which isn’t quite in the same league for inaccurate reporting than The Sun, but not by much, reports that Matt Smith and the first ten incarnations of The Doctor will appear in a 15 minute Children In Need Special titled The Eleven Doctors.
This special episode is reportedly to air as part of the BBC’s Children In Need event, which airs every November. Archive footage will be used for the late William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee. A BBC source supposedly tells the Mirror:
“This is a momentous episode for all Doctor Who fans. Never before have all the Doctors been in the same room, let alone in the same show. It’s been a logistical nightmare getting all the actors together and available for shooting on the same days. But the script has already been started and it’s classic Doctor Who – really witty and very sharp. Viewers will see the Time Lords regenerating and emerging one by one from the Tardis, each with their own quirky opening line. David Tennant is the central character in the episode. He’s trying to hunt down some special time travel apparatus. What he’s actually lost has not yet been decided, but the idea is for all the other Doctors to club together to help David find it. The actors who are no longer with us, William, Jon and Patrick, will make special cameo appearances, with footage from original shows being flashed up on screen. It’s a really exciting project – and all for a good cause.”
Although an Eleven Doctors episode sounds far fetched, it isn’t unusual for the BBC to do something with The Doctor for Children In Need. The franchises association with the charity fund raiser dates back to its earliest days in the 1980’s when viewers were treated to the feature length episode The Five Doctors.
There have been numerous Doctor Who specials and skits since then, but the last one to use more than just two incarnation of the Doctor was the bloody awful Dimensions In Time, which aired as part of the 1993 Children In Need Event.
