Comix Portal: No Bad Characters …

Written by Wayne Hall on February 2, 2010 – 12:00 pm -

Only bad writers.  Or at least, writers who don’t know what to do with the characters.

How many times have we seen comics characters go down in flames, even die, only to see them rise up again “because you demanded it?”

My favorite examples of this come from the DC Comics universe—Green Lantern, The Flash, and the Justice Society of America. (We’ll ignore Superman and Batman for the moment.)

It was about 20 or so years ago that the good folks at DC decided that nobody could write The Flash.  After all, he’s so incredibly fast that he could solve any problem as soon as it happened.  It was impossible to challenge him.  Or so we were told.

Grant Morrison: More Plans For Bruce Wayne’s Return To Batman Revealed

Written by Ian Cullen on January 29, 2010 – 10:01 am -

To  fans Grant Morrison is one of the few that knows how to write strong Batman stories, and is every bit as revered as Geoff Johns is for his work on Green Lantern.

Comix Portal: DC Comics And Beyond

Written by Wayne Hall on January 28, 2010 – 12:01 pm -

Wow, a month in 2010 has almost gone by already!  They say time goes by faster the older you get.  I must be getting pretty old because time is flying by!  The good news is that there are new comics to review, so here goes:

1. World’s Finest #4 of 4. For anyone who has read comics as long as I have, the name “World’s Finest” means something special.  Back in 1941, the first issue of World’s Best Comics came out, which was renamed to World’s Finest with the second issue.  Since that time, Superman and Batman have largely been the heroes associated with the book, which was canceled in 1986 and followed up by various mini-series.
