DC Comics And Beyond: Comics Reviews

As the holiday season approaches, it seems my weekly comics take gets bigger.  I’ll have to remember that next year.  I took home a healthy dose of reading material, so let’s get to it:

NOT the cover of Flash: Rebirth #5 -- but it's close!1. The Flash: Rebirth #5 of 6. Geoff Johns continues to intrigue and amaze as he re-defines the Scarlet Speedster for DC Comics.  Ethan Van Sciver’s art pulls me in and makes me feel I’m experiencing what Barry Allen is going through, particularly the third page in the issue.  Wow!

In this issue, we find out that Barry Allen was always out of step with the rest of the world, including work, his social life and his family.  He often felt alone as a result of this.  And that didn’t change when he was struck by lightning and became the Flash.  “I didn’t have to be the fastest, I just didn’t want to be the only one,” he reflects. Blackest Night Continues To Sell Well For DC

Last year was an intense year for event comics with both Marvel and DC. However this year hasn’t been as big in regards to event comics, and the only exception has been DC Universes Blackest Night event, which kicked off in Geoff Johns run of Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps. DC Comics And Beyond: Comics Reviews

This week, the three books I want to talk about are all Blackest Night. (You knew that was going to happen eventually, right?)  I did get my Agent Orange and Indigo Tribe power rings, so I’m a happy guy.  All three titles that were released deserve some attention, so here goes (in alphabetic order):

Booster Gold 261. Booster Gold #26. It wasn’t that long ago I reviewed this title by Dan Jurgens, but now that this issue is a part of the Blackest Night event, I couldn’t overlook it.

Blue Beetle/Ted Kord is back, but he’s now a Black Lantern.  And he’s laughing the old “Bwah-ha-ha” the character used to make in the Justice League International comics.  But it just isn’t the same.

The first half of the comic has Booster time-travelling back to Ted’s funeral, and he watches himself grieve and struggle to find anything to say about his close friend.  Booster’s recent encounter with the Black Beetle from the future has apparently revived old feelings. Read more »
