Hodges Gives Real Reason Why There Was Never A ‘Flash Gordon 2′

Most who read this site will already know that I’m a huge fan of Flash Gordon in pretty much most formats. Whether it be comic book or movie. If it features Flash Gordon I’m likely to give it a look, and will also be very critical if its a bad interpretation like the Syfy Channel one was.

One interpretation I do love though is the 1980 movie, which was cheesy and very high camp, but was also what the Buster Crabbe, Flash Gordon movie serials would have looked like if they had the budget.

It often surprised me that there was never a sequel to the 1980 movie, and in a recent interview for Total SciFi director Mike Hodges revealed that a personality conflict killed the chances of a sequel.

Eisner’s Update Of ‘Flash Gordon’ Will Use Original Comic Strips

There has been much concern lately about the fact that director/producer Breck Eisner is to helm the very latest movie incarnation of Flash Gordon, a comic book character, which was born in 1934 and has movie origins that date back to 1936 when Buster Crabbe first played the role, which would ultimately be the defining moment of his acting career.

The concern stems from the mess Syfy made of Flash Gordon in their Steve Gordon series, which had Flash living with his Mother, and had numerous things going on, which took the character to far away from his comic book origins.
