Sci-Fi UK To Reinvent Tuesday Evenings

Written by Ian Cullen on May 12, 2009 – 3:51 pm -

While the American SciFi Channel, which is soon to be known as Syfy Channel had Sci-Fi Friday, which usually encompassed shows such as Stargate: Atlantis, Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica. The UK’s version of the Network has never really dabbled with such a marketing ploy.

All this could change however starting tonight, because the Cable Channel, which launched back in 1996 is attempting to bring some science fiction mojo to the small screen.

Which Genre Shows Are To Face The Axe?

Written by Ian Cullen on February 3, 2009 – 9:00 am -

TSCC CastBy Ian M. Cullen

SyFy Portal has run an interesting report based on their findings with regards to the future of some of the current crop of American Genre shows.

Among the batch of shows facing the Axe is the quasi continuation of Knight Rider. In spite of the studio enforced reboot the show isn’t likely to return for a second season. The simple reason that the series has generally performed less well than Bionic Woman did in the ratings, and the fact that it’s such an expensive show to make do not rule well in Knight Riders favour. Viewers for the series would likely have to double what they are now for it to even have a chance at a second season, and even then it would likely be under the control of a new production team due to the fact that NBC and producer Gary Scott Thompson are not on good terms.

Another show, which will not be returning for a second season is ABC Television’s adaptation of the hit BBC series Life On Mars. Apparently even Harvey Keitel wasn’t a match for Philip Glenister in the role of Gene Hunt. And the ratings for the ABC remake haven’t been great.

Also facing cancellation is Terminater: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which is a favourite show of us here at scifipulse.net. Unfortunately the shows ratings have been on the decline since it returned in September of last year. Cancellation for this series is by no means official as yet. But according to various sources it’s somewhat of a forgone conclusion unless the viewers suddenly double for the series during the second half of the second season.

Shows returning for another season. Are series such as Fringe, which though hasn’t had the greatest ratings, viewers have been consistent, which means that Fox are more than happy to give it another season.

Returning is Heroes. NBC are hoping that the staff changes behind the scenes will pay dividends and so are the viewers.

And on CW Network fans will be pleased to know that Smallville and Supernatural will be returning for the 2009/10-television season. Simply because the CW has nothing to replace them with, so it’s better the devil they know, than the devil they don’t.

  • Please note that everything above is speculation based on various sources within the US television industry and circumstances can change. The above is how the picture is looking as of this moment.
