2010 Emmys Mostly Ignore Genre Programs

The Emmys weren’t as kind to sci-fi and other genre and genre-related programs in 2010, according to The Los Angeles Times.
The awards that recognize excellence in the television arts gave what appeared to be tacit recognition to most shows, including Lost and 24. While Lost was nominated for multiple trophies, the series only took home one Emmy, and that had been handed out previously–Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series for “The End.” Neither Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson, who had won Emmys previously, won the Outstanding Supporting Actor for a Drama Series.
24 didn’t fare much better, taking home trophies for Best Original Score and Best Sound Editing for a Series. There was some hope that there would be a “farewell” of sorts for both shows, but that did not take place.

Written by Wayne Hall on July 8, 2010 – 5:01 pm -
The 2010 Emmy nominations were announced Thursday, July 8, and several genre programs and actors were nominated, according to Zap2it.com. But first, some highlights: Fox’s Glee lead all programs with 19 total nominations, Mad Men was close behind with 17 nominations; HBO’s miniseries The Pacific took home the most total nominations with 24. HBO received the most nominations overall, with 101 bids, followed by ABC with 63 and CBS with 57. NBC earned 48, Fox received 47 and PBS had 32. Showtime had 23 nods.
Even though Lost has left ABC’s airwaves, it received several nominations, including one for Best Drama Series (which means it is up against HBO’s True Blood in that category). Matthew Fox is in the running for Best Lead Actor In A Drama Series, with both Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson nominated for Best Supporting Actor In A Drama Series. Elizabeth Mitchell could win Best Guest Actress In A Drama for her appearance in the show’s finale, and Jack Bender could pick up an Emmy for “The End” as well, as Outstanding Director. Lost collected 12 nominations in all.
