‘Torchwood’ Enters ‘The New World’ On Starz

No more Children Of The Earth for Torchwood! Now, it is on to The New World, said creator Russell T. Davies during the  Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour.

“It’s partly a new series in that it’s hitting Starz and has a new title, Torchwood: The New World, said Davies.  ”So it’s very keen to move on, but at the same time, we’re going to be absolutely faithful to people who followed Captain Jack’s story and to John Barrowman‘s career.  So we do acknowledge the past stories while at the same time moving on to new stuff.”

‘Torchwood: Children Of Earth’ Surprised BBC, Davies Said

When ratngs for the series Torchwood: Children Of Earth began to come in, Russell T. Davies said that BBC One was surprised how high they were, according to digitalspy.com.

“To be honest, Children Of Earth took the whole of BBC One by surprise–they didn’t expect it to be quite that successful,” Davies told SFX. “It went out in the summer, five nights a week, and you think, ‘Well, that’s a bit of a graveyard slot, isn’t it?’

“Then I was getting the controller of BBC One phoning me on the Thursday going, ‘Oh my God, everyone’s watching it!’” Davies said when he received a call from BBC One Controller Jay Hunt. The folks at BBC One had just seen the fact that the sci-fi drama had attracted nearly 6 million viewers when it aired in a stripped weekday format last July.

New ‘Torchwood’ To Be Very Dark, Warns Davies

Since the announcement was made about season four of Torchwood and the fact that it would be a joint production between US based cable channel Starz, BBC Wales and BBC Worldwide, it’s fair to say that fans of been both excited and concerned about the future of the series, which until recently has been mostly set in Cardiff.
