Comix Portal: DC Comics And Beyond

Yup, February is here, all right!  We just had two snowfalls, and now we are supposed to get another 1-2 foot storm Friday through Saturday in the Washington, DC, area. Sounds like a great time to curl up with new comics, so here goes:

1. Tales Of The Starlight Drive-In #6. It just strikes me as ironic that I said, not too long ago, that digital comics won’t replace the paper versions. Ever since then, I’ve been reading more digital comics.

Published by Visionary Comics (or VCS), this comic is not for people who require “longjohns” characters (commonly referred to as superheroes) before they will open the issue.

Comix Portal: DC Comics And Beyond

Wow, a month in 2010 has almost gone by already!  They say time goes by faster the older you get.  I must be getting pretty old because time is flying by!  The good news is that there are new comics to review, so here goes:

1. World’s Finest #4 of 4. For anyone who has read comics as long as I have, the name “World’s Finest” means something special.  Back in 1941, the first issue of World’s Best Comics came out, which was renamed to World’s Finest with the second issue.  Since that time, Superman and Batman have largely been the heroes associated with the book, which was canceled in 1986 and followed up by various mini-series.

The most recent mini-series wrapped up with week.  Previous team-ups included Red Robin and the Kryptonian hero Nightwing, Supergirl and Batgirl, Robin and the Guardian, and, finally, Superman and Batman.  The great thing is that all these books tied very tightly into the continuity of the characters’ own titles, which I liked.

It’s been fun to see members of the Superman and Batman families work together that we normally don’t get to see interact.  It is always special when Supergirl and Batgirl unite, regardless of who is under the costumes.  When Robin had to fight alongside the Guardian (who is the ultimate parent), he gave the new Boy Wonder something to think about.  And he needed that.
