‘Torchwood: Children Of Earth’ Surprised BBC, Davies Said
Written by Wayne Hall on August 3, 2010 – 11:15 am -When ratngs for the series Torchwood: Children Of Earth began to come in, Russell T. Davies said that BBC One was surprised how high they were, according to digitalspy.com.
“To be honest, Children Of Earth took the whole of BBC One by surprise–they didn’t expect it to be quite that successful,” Davies told SFX. “It went out in the summer, five nights a week, and you think, ‘Well, that’s a bit of a graveyard slot, isn’t it?’
“Then I was getting the controller of BBC One phoning me on the Thursday going, ‘Oh my God, everyone’s watching it!’” Davies said when he received a call from BBC One Controller Jay Hunt. The folks at BBC One had just seen the fact that the sci-fi drama had attracted nearly 6 million viewers when it aired in a stripped weekday format last July.
