Kirby Heirs Respond To Marvel Lawsuit

Over weekend we reported that Marvel Comics has sued over ownership to the creative rights in response to a suit filed by the heirs to the estate of the late Jack Kirby.

Now it seems that Jack Kirby’s heirs have responded to the counter law suit, which was filed by Marvel Comics late last Friday afternoon.

All this started in September of last year when the Kirby heirs filed a suit requesting that the creative rights revert back to the family.

However, in their counter suit, which was filed late Friday afternoon in the USA Marvel maintained that Kirby’s work for the company was “for hire”, invalidating claims made by the Kirby estate.

According to a recent press release found at Robot 6 issued by attorneys Toberoff & Associates said Marvel’s assertion was an example of a company attempting to deprive a creative talent of rights to their work. Read more »

Marvel Countersues Kirby Heirs Over Spider-Man Rights

Back in September of last year we along with many other websites reported that the late Jack Kirby’s children and heirs were looking to sue Marvel over the creative rights to Spider-Man and numerous other characters that the late great artist has a hand in creating.

Now it looks like Marvel who know have Disney in their corner are prepping a fight back and are counter suing for the rights. Just yesterday a federal lawsuit was filed by Marvel over the creative rights for Spider-Man as well as Fantastic Four and X-Men.

It’s A Deal! Disney Completes Acquisition Of Marvel!

It’s official!  Marvel Entertainment is now part of The Walt Disney Co., according to several news releases.

During a meeting held on Thursday, December 31, shareholders of Marvel Entertainment Inc., approved the company’s acquisition by Disney, the owners of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, as expected.

A spokesperson for Marvel, home of characters including Spider-Man, Thor and the X-Men, said the $4.3 billion acquisition was completed at the end of the day.

As a result of the deal, Marvel shareholders will receive $30 per share in cash, plus 0.745 Disney shares for every Marvel share they own. Disney shares traded midday Thursday at $32.49, up 21 cents on the day. That values Marvel shares at $54.25, just above their trading price of $54.19. Read more »
