CD Overview:  Lifeforce was a horror movie, which was produced back in 1985 by Tobe Hooper who made his name with the infamous Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The movie had an impressive cast for its day but never really achieved great commercial success and like most horror and science fiction of the time it did far better on Video.

Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation would probably be curious about this movie due to the fact that Patrick Stewart took on a role in this movie which was made a year prior to him taking command of the USS Enterprise NCC 1701 – D.

‘A space shuttle mission investigating Halley's Comet brings back a malevolent race of space vampires who transform most of London's population into zombies. The only survivor of the expedition and British authorities attempt to capture a mysterious but beautiful alien woman who appears responsible.’ (Plot Synopsis provided by Internet Movie Database.)

The Packaging: Is the standard Music CD with small booklet, which provides interesting trivia about the film, as well as how composer Henry Mancini was drafted in to score the film. This is a two-disk set that comprises some additional music, which never made it into the final cut of the movie.

The Music: What can I say other than wow. The score for this movie in my opinion was far more cerebral and entertaining than the actual film itself which is basically a zombie flick, which is a genre, have never been into anyway.

Henry Mancini like most composers that work in movies takes great lengths to utilise his musical abilities to help tell the story.

From the opening chord of the main title you are sucked in. Your imagination is triggers and to be honest this movie score would work better in a straight Sci Fi Movie as apposed to a fusion of Sci Fi and Horror.

Certain aspects of this score reminded me of the cheesiness of some of the old 1960’s Hammer Horror movies but for the most part the music was elevated above that class.

There are additional pieces of music which are provided by composer Michael Kamen and to be honest it is difficult to distinguish who has done what when you listen to the CD’s from start to finish.

However overall I liked what I heard on this CD. It is a good one to put in the Hi Fi close your eyes and let you mind wonder. Though as said earlier I actually hated the movie that this music is from.

Audio: Audio is in Dolby digital and when played through the Hi Fi at full pelt sounds mind blowing

Overall: Overall I would recommend this as a Christmas gift to fans of this movie. But as I have proved even a none fan can enjoy this soundtrack. Well worth the price tag in my opinion but you better hurry and buy a copy because this CD Sound Track is limited to 3000 units.
