5 Actors We would like to play Revan in a Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic film

Revan was power. It was like staring into the heart of the Force...

From all accounts, it appears as though the 2020s will be a very exciting time for Star Wars fans. With the Kenobi series on the horizon as well as season 2 of The Mandalorian, not to mention the planned new trilogy of films, it seems like the only way is up for a galaxy far, far away. It has been reported that Laeta Kalogridis has finished the first draft of a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic film script. While it’s not clear whether this film script will follow the established canon of Revan being male and light sided I thought it might be fun to imagine what actors could portray the ultimate Sith on the big screen. So without further ado, let’s get speculating!

Keanu Reeves

An obvious choice, but one that has to be made. Keanu Reeves has the commanding presence of Revan as well as resembling Revan’s in-game model from The Old Republic video game. The only issue with this choice is if Reeves would still be able to perform the epic lightsaber duels and stunts that a KOTOR film would undoubtedly require. This problem can easily be overcome with CGI however. While I’m aware that Reeves is by far the most popular choice for the Lord of Revenge I just wonder if he is a good enough actor to take us on the emotional journey that Revan goes through during the events of the KOTOR game. Darth Revan’s story is canonically one of redemption and we need to see the character achieve this through the performer who plays him. I think that time will probably tell if Reeves is capable of this should he be cast.

Natalie Dormer

This actor has the charm, charisma and ability to portray both light and darkness, often at the same time, that I think would work well for Revan. Depending on whether a female Revanchist is light sided or dark sided it would challenge Dormer I think to make the former Sith Lord’s romance with Carth and redemption believable. I only say this because there is a danger of female Revan’s romance with Carth becoming sappy or cheesy if the overall arc is not written and acted well. Against this I think Dormer would kill it as a Revan who retakes the title of Dark Lord after lulling her companions into thinking she was one of them. This could set up a KOTOR 2 film or series in which a light sided Exile attempts to fix the damage wreaked by Dormer’s reborn Sith Lord.

Jurnee Smollet Bell

While I’m less knowledgeable about Jurnee Smollet Bell than I am the other choices on this list I think she would be great at portraying a kickass, take no shit Revan who would be more than a match for Carth. This performer is likable enough to carry a Star Wars film or trilogy of films and has the on screen presence to hold the audience’s attention. Smollet Bell would also be able to sell Revan as the greatest warrior of her time due to her training in mixed martial arts. If this actor was cast as the amnesiac former Sith Lord Disney would have to do their utmost to avoid her being sidelined from her own story due to being a woman of colour, as John Boyega’s character Finn was in the sequel trilogy. I’ve seen somebody on Tumblr suggest Michael B. Jordan to play Carth and Constance Wu to play Bastila, which could add some fascinating dimensions to the three main characters’ dynamic if they went through with this. Fans will recognize Jurnee Smallet from ‘Lovecraft Country’ where she plays the role of Letti.

Anthony Mackie

Anthony Mackie has the quiet steeliness and masculinity to portray Revan as a strong leader and the person who holds the crew of the Ebon Hawk together. I can imagine Mackie showing Revan’s reactions to and eventual acceptance of his identity as the former Sith Lord brilliantly, as this performer has a real ability to convey difficult emotions on screen. I can also see Mackie making the way that Revan teases Bastila charming and something that the entire audience would be able to get behind, as some in the KOTOR fandom have criticised the way that in-game male Revan behaves towards the Jedi who saved his life. Like Jurnee Smollet Bell, Anthony Mackie also has the ability to show the Prodigal Knight’s fighting skills which are essential for any actor playing a Force user, but especially for Revan.

Asia Kate Dillon

This performer has the steel in similarity to Anthony Mackie to be able to play the most powerful Force user of their generation. A Revan played by Asia Kate Dillon would be believable as someone who could hold the fate of the entire galaxy in their grasp, as well as representing non binary people. I’d like to see Dillon portray Revan during the Mandalorian war, rallying the Jedi to stand against the threat to the Republic as well as Malak’s and their fall to the dark side. If Disney intend to create a Star Wars cinematic universe they could build it around a Revan played by this actor, showing them in successive films as a Padawan, a Jedi Knight and a Sith Lord. There is also potential to bring in Kreia, the Exile and various other characters from the games to interact with Dillon’s Revan.

What actor(s) would you cast as Revan? Do you agree with the ones I’ve chosen? Leave a comment below and remember, they say the Force can do terrible things to a mind. It can wipe away your memories and destroy your very identity…

I’m not sure what’s worse: the annoyingly over-the-top annoyance that is Revan or your completely off-base suggestions for who should play him.
