Fantasy Book Bingo is a yearly challenge held within the Fantasy thread of Reddit, challenging members of the community to expand their horizons, get out of their comfort zones and find captivating new worlds.

Each square in the game of bingo corresponds to a type of Sci-fi Fantasy book, whether it be a short or a novel. Some of the squares include themes such as SFF novella, Cyberpunk, and Afrofuturism. When a player completes reading the books in a row of five squares, they are entered into a prize draw.

Or maybe the challenge isn’t for you and instead you would prefer to play a real game of bingo? Make sure to head over to a quality review site to be certain you are getting the biggest bingo bonuses.

Let’s take a more in-depth look at some of the most exciting squares featured in this year’s Sci-fi Fantasy Bingo Book challenge 2019…

Slice of Life/Small Scale Sci-Fi Fantasy

One of the more abstract categories to be included in this year’s bingo card, the slice of life category challenges players to read a Sci-fi fantasy novel that uses the storytelling technique of taking a seemingly arbitrary incident in a character’s life lacking in any clear plot, conflict or resolution. Whilst these types of stories tend to feature little actual progress, they are celebrated for their attention to detail and the fact that they find meaning in the seemingly quotidian.

Graphic Novel

Certainly one of the easier reads on the 2019 bingo card, a graphic novel in the Sci-Fi fantasy genre should not be difficult to find for this year’s players. Players are encouraged to stick within speculative fiction for the purposes of the bingo game whilst the Hard Mode version suggests starting an entirely new graphic novel.

Sci-fi fantasy novel by a local to you author

A really exciting square that can help players to get to know their local Sci-Fi fantasy fiction scene. Players are encouraged to research those writers who live or have spent a considerable period of their life in a town or city close to them. Concessions are made for players from countries with a less rich tradition of Sci-Fi fantasy fiction, with the regulators suggesting reading something from an author hailing from a neighboring of a nearby nation.

Afrofuturism

This is a really exciting genre of Sci-Fi Fantasy fiction that will, for many players, represent uncharted territory. Essentially, Afrofuturism concerns a cultural aesthetic, philosophy of science and philosophy of history that looks at the rapidly growing mingling of African Diaspora culture with technology. For those who might not necessarily familiar with this genre of Sci-Fi Fantasy, some famous practitioners of Afrofuturism include famous musician Janelle Monae, writer W.E.B. Dubois and artist Sun Ra. The hard mode version of this square suggests reading a book that has less than 1000 ratings on Goodreads.
