Despite the fact that it under-performed at the box office as well as the loop warm reception from critics and fans alike. It would seem that there could still be a sequel to ‘Terminator Genisys.’
The movie, which was supposed to be Arnold Schwarzenegger’s much anticipated return as the T – 800 was initially slated to be a trilogy of films, but its future as a trilogy looked uncertain when the first part, which premiered earlier in the summer under-performed.
The sequel plans may well have been saved thanks to the movie doing really well in China who haven’t had an American made film in their theatres since the smash hit ‘Jurassic World’. The fifth film in the Terminator franchise earned $27.4 million on Sunday after it was finally unveiled to an eager Chinese cinema-going public.
This is after disappointing receipts in the US, where it scored $89 million in its whole run off the back of a $155 million budget.
Many critics concluded that because of this, the franchise had died a death, despite a more impressive international haul of $264 million.
As to whether a sequel will happen remains to be seen. My guess is the film may yet make more money off of DVD, Blu Ray and Video On Demand sales and a sequel could well hang on how well it does there.
