Mitch Pileggi, who has continued to pop in various roles on television since ‘The X-Files’ finished its run is to reprise his role as Agent Skinner, who was pretty much the guy in charge of Agent Mulder and Scully and was also their support when it came to dealing with red tape.
David Duchovny hinted at Pileggi’s return last month when he appeared on Late Show with David Letterman. Skinner became a fan favorite over the series’ nine-season run, moving from uptight boss to one of Mulder and Scully’s main allies, and was last seen in a brief appearance in 2008’s feature film ‘I Want to Believe.’
Pileggi, who enjoyed a strong recurring role in the ‘Dallas’ revival of recent years revealed via his Twitter that he was excited to be returning to ‘The X-Files’.
Very happy to announce that Walter Skinner will once again be getting all grumpy and bitchy with his two wayward kids. Very happy.

Of course he isn’t the only one happy about it. The millions of ‘X-Files’ fans will likely be happy and it seems some of the more professional fans are also stoked. Television writer and producer Bryan Fuller tweeted his support for Pileggi by voicing what pretty much most fans have been thinking.
WOULDN’T BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU, MITCH! EXCELLENT NEWS! https://t.co/zfqY10GpDh

In terms of any other characters from the hit show. The only one we are aware of other than skinner is the return of the smoking man. It be great to see a return for the Lone Gunmen, but sadly they were killed off toward the end of the series. Which is a shame because I enjoyed their quirkiness.
