CBS Developing ‘Island of Dr. Moreau’ With Female Lead

Titled Moreau, the drama would follow Dr. Katherine Moreau

CBS is joining the gender bending club with a new adaptation of ‘The Island Of Dr. Moreau’, which is a classic story from the grand master of science fiction HG Wells.

The network is looking to turn the original story on its head by casting a woman in the lead role of the mad scientist that took genetics and human and animal experimentation to some pretty extreme places.

Titled Moreau, the drama would follow Dr. Katherine Moreau, a physiologist who goes to a privately funded island hospital to experiment with creating animal-human hybrids. This would put a slightly new twist on Wells’ original novel, which followed a shipwrecked man who winds up on Dr. Moreau’s island.

Given that we seen a female version of HG Wells in ‘Warehouse 13’ a few years back. I’d be happy to go along with this remake if the right actress was chosen for the role. Moreau has always been one of the more psychologically disturbed characters in classic science fiction. So it will require an actress with the chops to pull that sort of thing off.
