Councilman takes oath with Capt. America’s shield

San Jose has just elected the closest thing to a super hero as City Councilman.

Lan Diep was recently elected as a City Councilman in San Jose California and decided to be sworn in holding a replica of Captain America’s iconic red, white and blue shield.

While some might see this as inappropriate, Councilman Diep and his supporters believe that there is something to be said for trying to live up to the ideals and values which Captain America’s shield stands for. Councilman Diep had the audacity to hold that shield up high and proudly as both a message to those he represents as well as a symbol to all Americans that he will do what needs to be done, because it is the right thing to do!

Some may laugh, but SciFiPulse salutes Councilman Diep’s courage to stand for something greater than himself and for daring to be a bold dreamer! We need more folks in office like this Councilman, not less!!! And when times are dark and the political dogs are nipping at your heals Councilman, say to yourself what Steve Rogers might say, “I can do this all day long!”

Here is what San Jose’s newest City Councilman had to say to the media a reported by the Huffington Post, “I do hope to aspire to those ideals of fair play, equal justice and democracy during my term. But really, I just had this awesome shield and I wanted a chance to show it off. I believe government can be fun and I’m not above creating a bit of spectacle if it helps people pay more attention to local government. I’m willing to entertain them if they sit through all the policy discussions.”

While any Geek would completely agree with Councilman Diep about the awesomeness of Cap’s shield, few can argue with the need for bringing a little light heartedness into today’s politics, while also striving to live up to a high standard of morality and conduct in the service of one’s community and the greater good.

Good luck Councilman and May the Force be with you!
