The much loved ‘Doctor Who Confidential’ series, which was a supplementary series that would air after each new episode of ‘Doctor Who’ on BBC THREE is to make a return, but as an online based show with a new name.
The show was a regular feature that accompanied each new episode of ‘Doctor Who’ from 2005 through to its cancellation in 2011 due to budget cuts with regard to BBC THREE.
The new series will be called ‘Doctor Who Extra’ and will be available through BBC iPlayer or through the RED Button
Doctor Who Extra will follow a similar format as Confidential, following Peter Capaldi “every step of the way throughout the creation of his first season as the Doctor”.
The show will have exclusive access to Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman as well as the show’s guest stars such as Frank Skinner, Keeley Hawes, Michelle Gomez, Ben Miller and Foxes.
The BBC press release promises: “Packed with emotion, great stories and a real sense of ‘access all areas’, Doctor Who Extra is essential viewing for everyone who’s ever watched Doctor Who and wondered what it’s like to be a part of the team that brings this global phenomena to our screens.”
Each 10-minute episode, which will be exec produced by Steven Moffat, will be released after every Doctor Who episode on BBC One. It will be available to audiences via the BBC’s Red Button.
Capaldi’s first episode of Doctor Who, ‘Deep Breath’, premieres on BBC One on Saturday (August 23).
