Review: At long last the original soundtrack for ABC’s excellent ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ is available to own on both CD and Digital platforms and its well worth the purchase.
Bear McCreary brings much gravitas to the action series, which is the official television spin-off of Marvels Avengers movie franchise and centres on Agent Coulson and his agents.
The music contained in this package is fantastic and we get to hear the full version of the main title sequence, which is much better than the shortened version that we hear at the start of the television series every week.
Musically there is much to choose from with this collection.
Although I love the opening title sequences to this show. I still don’t think Bear has managed to top the epic job that he did with the main title sequence for his ‘Human Target’ score a few years back, but his work on AOS certainly comes a close second to that.
Bear obviously knows the importance of a grand soundtrack for an action show like AOS and in my book he has delivered with this collection. I’ve listened to it through twice and I’m still humming many of Bears melody lines to myself and it wouldn’t surprise me if I am trying to figure out some of the guitar stuff later one when I get some time to mess around.
There’s a track on this collection called “0-8-4”, which kind of harks back to some of the work that Bear did on his Battlestar Galactica soundtracks. Pay close attention to the drums in the track and you will hear what I am getting at.
Another few tracks of note are ‘Showdown At Union Station’ and ‘Aftermath Of The Uprising’.
As a guitarist and lover of string instruments. There was a fair bit for me in this release to listen to, but there is also some brilliant work done with the wind section as well.
If you haven’t got this already. Buy it now because its definitely one that will get repeatedly played.
- Great music throughout
- Main title not quite as good as the work Bear did for 'Human Target', but its a close second
