Synopsis: Coulson finally reveals the mysterious deal he made with Ghost Rider, which will impact everyone on the S.H.I.E.L.D. team.
Review: The team has to deal with a mysterious portal, which seems to be projecting their worst fears right at them from a sort of fear dimension. Deke gets sent on a special mission by Coulson and Coulson is finally forced into a situation where he has to reveal that he is essentially dying.
This episode is fairly self-contained. The only stuff we have that really ties into the overall arc in any way is Yo-Yo dealing with the loss of her arms and how it has brought home that fact that stuff the future Yo-Yo warned about is beginning to come true. We also get a bit of follow up with General Hale who has connected with the police officers at the local jail where Daisy was sighted when rescuing Deke in last weeks episode.
The portal that is projecting the team’s fears at them was a nice touch and it was appropriate and logical for Coulson to be the one to close it in that it set up the reveal about his condition and made for a great scene between him and Daisy. For her part in it, Daisy is feeling the future loss of Coulson hard in that he has almost become a father figure to her and both Clark Gregg and Chloe Bennett sold this scene wonderfully. I almost welled up myself.
We get a brilliant guest slot from Deathlok who swoops in and saved Agent Coulson at the last minute and he even sticks around for the long overdue wedding of Fitz and Simmons, which leads to a fascinating reveal about Deke. In light of the reveal, it was a fun move to have Coulson send Deke out to shop for the wedding.
Overall. I quite enjoyed this episode, but look forward to the team being mobile again in their final battle against General Hale.
