In Review: Arrow – My Name Is Emiko Queen

Synopsis: Oliver is ready to get back to work with the SCPD and to focus on his marriage with Felicity. However, when Dinah tasks Oliver with tracking the new Green Arrow things take a surprising turn. Meanwhile, Diggle and Layla must answer to ARGUS about Diaz.

Review: In this episode, we learn more about the new Green Arrows and her origins.

The Story

This weeks episode has a few threads attached to it, but the main two things happening is Oliver finding out that he has a sister and the reintroduction of the Suicide Squad, but it is now known as The Ghost Initiative.

When Oliver is tasked with investigating the identity of the new Green Arrow he is shocked to find out that it is Emiko Queen. A sister he didn’t know he had from one of his late father’s many indiscretions.

Meanwhile, at ARGUS. John makes Diggle an offer and does an end run around Layla by not telling her about his plan to relaunch The Ghost Initiative by making Diggle one of the new members. The Ghost Initiative being the new name for The Suicide Squad.

Elsewhere, Emiko Queen’s mission of vengeance gets a little complicated when she seeks help from Rene, who treats her injured shoulder and becomes a useful Ally. We learn that Emiko is on a mission of revenge and has adopted the mantle of Green Arrow to avenge the death of her mother.

In this week’s flash-forward scenes. We learn that Rene is the Mayor of The Glades, which has split off from Star City. We also learn the Rene is no longer the hero he used to be.

The Acting

Sea Shimooka is introduced this week as Emiko and puts in a fairly strong performance. Her scenes with Rene are well acted and there is the beginning of what could be interesting chemistry.

Overall

A solid episode for the second half of the 7th season to get going on.

I enjoyed the somewhat underhanded way in which Diggle re-introduced The Ghost Initiative and I am sure it will likely cause him and Layla some friction later down the line.

I also liked how Emiko was introduced and how it built up to that closing scene where Oliver introduces himself.

Overall. A pretty solid start.
