Synopsis: After the Ninth Circle delivers a major setback for Team Arrow, Diggle reluctantly reaches out to a Four-Star General of the Defense Intelligence Agency for help, despite unresolved tension from their past. Meanwhile, Oliver discovers a piece of information that he believes will turn Emiko against the Ninth Circle. Alena returns with an interesting proposal for Felicity.
Review: This episode gives us some new knowledge about Diggle and his past and also delivers more ties from the present day storyline to the future storyline.
When Felicity is unable to hack some technology that could bring them a step closer to the Ninth Circle Diggle sees if he can get the help of a four-star General who turns out to be his Stepfather. The two begin to bond as they develop a newfound respect for each other. Respect that becomes more solid when Diggle reads the classified report that reveals the truth about his real father.
Elsewhere Oliver has learned that Dante was responsible for the death of Emiko’s mother and hopes to use the information in order to get Emiko to switch sides.
In the future scenes. Felicity learns that the A.R.C.H.E.R. which is the security software that she developed with Alena has been enhanced and pretty much made into a weapon by Galaxy Tech.
Ernie Hudson puts in a nice performance as General Stewart who winds up being Diggles Stepfather and becomes a pretty useful asset to Team Arrow. Hopefully, we get to see a bit more of the General as the season winds down to a close.
Quite a lot of story threads got dealt with in this episode and we are getting a bit closer to finding out more about Dante and The Ninth Circle. But I continue to find the scenes set in the future a little more compelling especially in light of what happened with Felicity’s software program and how that is now being used against the city.
I really enjoyed the relationship that unfolded between Diggle and General Stewart and I hope to see the General work with Team Arrow again before the season wraps up.
I also enjoyed the brief fight between Oliver and Emiko. Especially enjoyed the little CGI used to show the two Arrows intercept each other moments before Emiko and Oliver get physical.
