Synopsis: Cayden James ups the ante by launching his plan to take control of every aspect of the city. Despite the scope of Cayden’s plan, Oliver is determined to foil it with just the Original Team Arrow – and without the aid of Rene, Dinah, or Curtis. But things get complicated when William is endangered as a result of Cayden’s handiwork.
Review: Phase one of Cayden James plan disrupts the cities internet and creates all manner of havoc. The police Captain is dead and Mayor Queen sets up safe zones throughout the city, which operate on analog devices only.
Meanwhile, team Arrow is still fragmented with Dinah, Rene and Curtis operating as a separate team from Oliver, Diggle, and Felicity, but the two sides still share intelligence. When Curtis gets some intelligence from an unexpected source he has to share with Felicity in order to get confirmation of the target. This sees the two teams come together in a huge rescue as Dinah, Rene and Curtis prevent two trains from colliding while Green Arrow and Diggle rescue civilians from a tunnel. Unfortunately for Ollie, his son is on a school trip, which is passing through the tunnel, which forces him to reveal the lie to his son about him having quit being the Arrow.
Cayden James pretty much has Ollie and the City where he wants them and thus holds the city to ransom for 10 million dollars a night. His plan is to ruin Oliver Queen by bankrupting the city.
Overall. A fairly good episode with lots of conflict between the two teams. Dinah’s reaction to finding out who has been giving Curtis intelligence from within Cayden’s camp is understandable and does for awhile threaten to fracture the fragile team and her role in it.
The fight sequences are off the hook this week and the scene where Felicity shows Ollie’s son just how good his father is at protecting the city is really well performed.
It will be interesting to see how Oliver will eventually take Cayden James down. I have a feeling that it will take more than just Felicity and her hacking skills to do it. And have to wonder what sort of white rabbit the writers will pull out of their hats as the season draws to a close. Is the main threat Cayden James or could there be someone else in charge of him?
