Synopsis: The ultimate showdown has begun! When a compromise can’t be reached, distrust has reached its peak, and the crews of the Galacticas square off in battle, pitting hero against hero! The fury of the Battlestars unleashed upon each other unless the treachery set against them can be discovered in time!
Review: This 5th issue sees things come to a head as Count Iblis gets a full and proper introduction and winds up being the lover of Kali, who is doing her damn best to play off one Galactica against the other. We learn here that Kali is the last of her race and that she wanted to turn her husbands creation The Cylons into a weapon. Now it looks like she and Iblis want to try and manipulate the humanoid Cylons from the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica Universe.
Elsewhere the two great Battlestar’s prepare for battle as the original shows Adama demands that Bill Adama turn over their version of Athena to be questioned by them. As they prepare for battle Bill Adama orders his Son Lee to tell his pilots to use Omega protocol. As the two Galactica crews duke it out in the stars Kara Starbuck gets to take on the original Starbuck in battle.
Overall. This was an issue that whizzed by at breathtaking pace. The courtship between Iblis and Khali was well written. It’s obvious that Peter David took some serious notes when watching the two original series episodes that introduced the mysterious count who turns out to be none other than the devil himself.
Once again. If your looking for the artwork to be representative of the characters from both television shows. Don’t hold your breath. Johnny Desjardins characterizations are more his interpretation than they are accurate and it can be a bit jarring. So best to keep your expectations fairly low because the only characters he has anywhere close to how they are supposed to look are those characters from the re-imagined universe and even then it is hit and miss.
