Review: This short trip adventure from Sharon Bidwell is a fun take on the old-time loop style adventure but with a clever twist.
Eco Warrior and Activist Jo Grant is travelling from London to Mexico, but when she makes the same journey several times with the same flight crew and passengers she begins to sense that something is seriously wrong. Pretty soon the 11th Doctor enters the story and we learn that there is much more to this time loop than we initially thought.
Katy Manning is absolutely fantastic in her role as narrator as she portrays all the various characters in the story and manages to find a different vocal inflection for everyone. Her voice for the 11th Doctor is particularly impressive when it is in direct conversation with Jo Grant throughout the story.
My initial reaction to this story during the opening 10 or so minutes was that of, “Oh no. Not another time loop.” But once the Doctor entered the story and it began to unfold fully I really started to get sucked in and at times it was rather creepy and sinister.
We get some wonderful callbacks to past adventures in this story. Particularly the Jon Pertwee Adventure ‘The Claws of Axos’, which also doubles as a pretty big clue as to what is happening to Jo in the story. Additionally, I also enjoyed how sneaky the 11th Doctor was in his plot to protect Jo throughout this story. It all made perfect sense by the close of the story and built up to a rather touching scene as The Doctor and Jo say goodbye once more. Neither knowing if they will see each other again.
