Synopsis: Jefferson and Anissa join forces with the ASA to help one of their own; Lynn is forced to continue battling her demons.
Review: This episode sees an epic scrap between Lynn and Dr. Helga Jace.
Picking the story up from last week. Lynn has been kidnapped by the Markovian’s and is being held captive for the purpose of reproducing the drug that stabilizes the meta’s. To that end, she is being made to work with Dr. Helga Jace who is also a prisoner of Markovia.
Back in Freeland Black Lightning and Anissa have just learned about Lynn and are working somewhat reluctantly with the ASA to get Lynn back. Elsewhere TC with some help from Gambi is trying to isolate the painkiller program from the computer in Khalil’s brain in order to try and bring Khalil back for Jennifer.
Jennifer Riker makes a much-welcomed return as Dr. Jace who has one mighty ding dong all-out fight with Lynn as the two get reacquainted. Although it soon becomes obvious to Lynn that beating the snot out of Jace is somewhat futile given that she is also a prisoner. That said though. The antagonistic relationship between the two characters is a lot of fun to watch and Riker’s penchant for playing the heartless and somewhat morally questionable scientist is something the show has missed.
We also get a fantastic scene from China Anne McClain and Jordan Calloway as Jennifer with some help from TC tries to get Khalil to return to the real world from a software-driven construct of his bedroom where his consciousness has been locked up in while the painkiller program has been active. Calloway pulls double duty as he portrays Khalil and Painkiller. The scene where Painkiller is taunting Khalil from behind the firewall is pretty epic as Khalil is shown all the murder that Painkiller has committed while using his body. This does not bold well for Jen and Khalil as far as their future is concerned. Especially given the guilt that Khalil will have to deal with.
This was a solid episode, which is definitely building toward the epic conclusion of the story arc, which only has about 3 episodes to go before the season concludes with the final chapter of The Book of War. Things are not looking good for Lynn as far as any future with the ASA is concerned. In fact, it will be interesting to see how Black Lightning and the team go about getting her back in next week’s show. Especially given that one of the ASA’s assets which is going on the mission has a kill order.
The episode is fairly light on action and heavy on drama and character development, but we do have the scrap between Lynn and Jace as well as a rather fun fight between Anissa and her girlfriend.
Overall. A solid episode that leaves you wanting more.
