Synopsis: The Tenth Doctor has his work cut out when he encounters a lost spaceship… whose crew are being absorbed by mysterious ghostly creatures! Everything is not as it seems, however, especially when disturbing facts about the crew come to light!

Review: As part of the build-up to the launch of the 13th Doctor Who in the autumn as well as her first adventures in comics. Titan has made the fantastic move of giving us a few adventures with prior incarnations in order to build up and tie into future comics adventures.

These three stand-alone adventures will feature the Tenth, Eleventh and Twelve Doctors and will be written by the team that will be writing the new Thirteenth Doctor adventures. This first issue sees David Tennent’s Tenth Doctor put to the test.

When the Tenth Doctor and his companions Gabby and Cindy land on a Ghost ship they encounter a crew who is suddenly threatened by mysterious ghost-like creatures.

Written by James Peaty we get a really nice self-contained story here that fly by. The dialogue and interactions between the Doctor and his new companions Gabby and Cindy are a lot of fun. I especially liked the little tip of the hat to ‘Star Wars’ when the Doctor introduces them as R2D2 and Threepio.

This every bit your typical Tenth Doctor adventure and Peaty captures the Tenth Doctors voice perfectly with the fast witty banter that he became so loved for in the television series.

The Artwork by Iolanda Zanfardino flatters the Tenth Doctor. In that, he captures the likeness of David Tennant, but he looks a few years younger than when we saw him in the series. I also loved Zanfardino’s ghost-like figures when they appeared. You can definitely visualize them being somewhat of a threat if done for the actual series with current CGI technology.

Overall. This is a wonderful little story, which will have you wondering what the writer and artist will do with the Eleventh and Twelve incarnations of Doctor Who. We also get a little glimpse of some of the artwork we will see in the Thirteenth Doctor Adventures when they start.

Doctor Who: The Road to the Thirteenth Doctor #1: Tenth Doctor Special will materialize in comic stores on 11 July.
