Synopsis: As the Doctor and Jo Grant attempt to defeat an invasion of shapeshifting robots, their true enemy plots against them from inside UNIT! When danger comes, wearing a familiar face, will the Doctor be able to see it in time – or will one of his closest allies pay the price?
Review: The adventure continues as the Third Doctor visits Jo’s subconscious in order to try and negotiate with the alien micro machines.
Meanwhile at UNIT Corporal Osgood has discovered a slight variance in the frequency, which the aliens are using to communicate with each other.
The second Doctor has began a rather impromptu investigation himself, which pretty much sees him leaving the Brigadier in limbo.
Back in Jo’s subconscious the Doctor and Miss Grant get a visit from the Brigadier who is revealed to be The Master.
This issue is brilliant fun and ends with a fantastic twist that most fans of the classic series will really appreciate.
Cornell continues to dazzle me with his ability to seemingly tap into how the characters speak to each other. In this instance it is the exchanges between The Third Doctor and The Master as they are leading up to the wonderful plot twist at the close of the issue.
Christopher Jone’s art continues to be bang on when it comes to the era of the Third Doctor and HiFi’s colours compliment Jone’s work perfectly.
This book continues to be an event for me in the truest sense of the word. I hope that Titan will give the nod to do more Third Doctor stories and maybe some Second Doctor ones too.
