The Chief has disappeared and the only clue that the team has to his whereabouts is an average donkey.

Synopsis: The Chief has disappeared and the only clue that the team has to his whereabouts is an average donkey.

Review: This episode begins with Alan Tudyk’s Mr. Nobody recapping events from last week and from that point on. Things just get trippy.

The Story

Having seen Mr. Nobody take The Chief through to another dimension. The Crazy Jane follows him through leaving the rest of the patrol to fend for themselves. Cliff, Larry, and Rita are left to fend for themselves. Cliff wants to carry on the search for Chief, but Larry and Rita decide to leave him to it.

In Detroit, Victor Stone Aka Cyborg is out on patrol catching criminals. But when he takes a break and opts for some privacy from his over-demanding father. Cyborg sees a news clip about the sudden disappearance of Cloverton and the mysterious group of people that were involved. This report triggers a flashback to his past when Niles Caulder visited him and his father and talked about the work he was doing. The memory spurs Victor to travel to Cloverton and help the Doom Patrol figure out what happened to The Chief.

The Acting

Once again. We are spoiled for choice when it comes to acting performances in this episode, but the one that stands out above all others is once again Alan Tudyk. Who acts as both narrator and lead tormentor for the Doom Patrol as the chaos-loving and very meta Mr. Nobody. There’s a fun scene near the start where in narrator mode Tudyk lets viewers know that he is talking directly to them. It’s a cleverly written and well acted moment, which blends wonderfully with the trippy nature of this episode.

Overall

Overall. This wasn’t a bad second outing for this new series. I enjoyed how Mr. Nobody tormented Cyborg, Elasti Woman, and Negative Man by showing them their past life from before them getting powers. It will be fun to see where they go next week now that they have at least got the town of Cloverton back from Mr. Nobody’s trippy dimension.
