In Review: Doom Patrol (S2 – E6) – Space Patrol

This episode is packed with a lot of character arcs and storylines.

Synopsis: As Niles and Cliff set out to find a missing Dorothy, Larry is tasked with handling Niles’ old research team when the ageless aeronauts return from space.

The Story

Having made a wish in last week’s episode. Dorothy is reeling from the consequences of having let her imaginary friend The Candlemaker kill two of Crazy Janes’s personalities. Not wanting to face the consequences Dorothy runs away and takes advantage of the return of the Aeronauts by stealing their space ship and heading into space. While Niles and Cliff (Robotman) take off in another craft to search for Dorothy, Larry (Negative Man) is left to look after Nile’s old research team and learns that one member of the team also has a Negative spirit living within her.

Meanwhile, Rita has her first rehearsal with the theatre group she has joined and finds out that the play she is doing is based on events that she had a part in. Elsewhere, Crazy Jane is still dealing with her other personalities within the mental construct in her head and is struggling to keep her place as the primary personality.

The Acting

Brendan Fraser puts in a brilliant performance this week as Cliff (Robotman) who has to talk Dorothy into coming back with him. The scene where he tells Dorothy that people are not always out to hurt each other was really sweet. Abigail Shapiro continues to shine as Dorothy and continues to put in a performance, which is way beyond her youthful 20 years.

Diane Guerrero gets some really good stuff to do as a shocked and confused Crazy Jane who is trying to process the loss of two of her many personalities.

This episode is packed with a lot of character arcs and storylines. I really enjoyed the discovery that Vic makes about the companies that fitted and removed technological enhancements from his girlfriend. I also enjoyed the storyline involving Larry and the revelation that the space mission that the Aeronauts have returned from had a direct impact on him becoming The Negative Man.

I look forward to seeing how all of this will develop in the coming weeks.
