In Review: Fear the Walking Dead ‘Another Day in the Diamond’

Season 4 episode 2 continued to delight many a disheartened Walking Dead fan!

The second episode of the fourth season of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, entitled ‘Another Day in the Diamond‘ wasn’t as action packed as last week’s episode, but in some ways it was just as refreshing. This week’s episode went into great detail about the new safe haven the original cast has come to call home, and true to the episode’s title, we come to find out that our once second favorite zombie apocalyptic survivors have created a safe community within an old baseball stadium.

What was most interesting was seeing all the intricate ways in which this baseball stadium could be made into a thriving post apocalyptic community, with all of the cobbled and rigged together ccomforts of home. What was most interesting was seeing all the intricate ways in which this baseball stadium could be made into a thriving post apocalyptic community, with all of the cobbled and rigged together comforts of home, or at least as close as you can get in a world where the dead walk.

Interestingly, the picture painted by the various scenes in the first portion of the episode is potentially the most entertaining as it pertains to the fast forwarding of time experienced by Fear the Walking Dead in between season’s three and four.

In essence it reveals just how far the character’s lives and story have progressed, in that they have been able to seemingly start new lives, and have perhaps even found a little joy and/or peace in the apocalypse, if that is even possible. And maybe it is, but if experience in this world is any judge, peace and happiness are often times fleeting in Robert Kirkman’s world.

Running hot water, farming and actual crops, along with electricity, and even maple syrup, is no small feet in the apocalypse, and could make any zombie survivor smile, even if only a little while. But still, we find our characters no more jaded than when we left, and in fact, perhaps even a bit more moral, caring, and human.

Nick seems to have found committed love with Luciana, while Victor seems to have gained a sense of morality, with even Madison willing to go out on a limb to help a little girl find her family, while being willing to help fight a pit full of zombies, in order to bring back a stranger who put a gun to her head. Carl would be proud!

And even though at the end of the episode we come across a group of seemingly bad guys, which would seem to be the beginning of the conflict leading to Fear’s characters running into Morgan and his new friends, ‘Another Day in the Diamond‘, was really a fresh look into the new and exciting life of Fear the Walking Dead!
