In Review: John Wick #2

John Wick's origin story continues!

Synopsis: John Wick’s origin story continues! In the underworld of El Paso, Texas, a familiar face introduces an ex-con named John Wick to the local branch of the mysterious Continental Hotel, a neutral zone where professional killers spend their downtime. But can John adhere to the rules of the Continental? Or will his search for vengeance destroy his chances for a peaceful life? Also… does John Wick actually have…a cat?

Review: Dynamites John Wick prequel comic continues and Greg Pak picks the story up from where things left off. After having impressed Cheron he gets a tour of the Continental where he attracts much interest from the many patrons of the mysterious hotel. Apparently, Wick’s recent hit on Pecos has raised a few eyebrows. Including those of Maria Pecos’s former Employer. She offers Wick a job with her crew, but he declines.

The rest of the issue sees Wick setting things up for some more murderous mayhem and it comes thick and fast over the final few pages of the issue as Wick has himself a little reunion with the El Paso underworld. Greg Pak cleverly writes some perfect set up for the meeting and the eventual pay off of this allows the artist Giovanni Valletta to go to work with some incredible action beats as Wick picks people off amid much confusion.

If you’re a fan of the John Wick movies. Then you’ll most likely really enjoy this comic book series. Greg Pak remains very true to the characters and Valletta’s art remains fairly faithful to the visual style of the films. And yes. Wick does look like Keanu Reeves.

Overall. A very enjoyable second issue that builds off of the mythology of the two films and glimpses John Wick’s murky past. And yes he does seem rather friendly¬†with a cat.
