Description: In the tradition of Grant Morrison’s 2001 New X-Men Annual, BOOM! Studios present a widescreen comic that catalogs the life and times of one Joe Christmas. Abandoned as a baby, Joe Christmas is taken in by Klaus. In this holiday calendar-inspired comic, experience 25 all-new short stories of Klaus teaming up with Joe Christmas over the years! Grant Morrison (New X-Men) and Dan Mora (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) return to the winter world of Klaus for an all-new holiday special.
In a nutshell. There are not any stories in this book. At least not in the traditional comic book sense of the word. Instead what you get is a series of postcard size pictures that take you through the life of Joe Christmas and his adventures, which really requires that you pick up the graphic novels to get more details on that. But we start in 2001. Joe Christmas who was rescued and raised by Klaus is 71. As you flick through the pages another decade. The second page being Joe Christmas holding a box with a Santa suit with Kaus standing proudly in the background. The most fun is had in the 1980s where we see one image of Joe Christmas and Klaus driving a GMC car while in pursuit of the Ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. So each picture has a bit of a story to tell if you sort of flow with it.
Joe Mora produces some great art for this. I love the imagination and attention to detail that goes into each decade that is represented in the book. There’s lots of great imagery of what has already mentioned above as well as some stuff that has not been talked about such as the image of Joe and Klaus in a sled that is being pulled by robotic reminders representing the early 90s.
I enjoyed this, but at £5.99 for digital purchase on Comixology. I think the price is a tad steep. But I will most likely try and pick up a physical copy at some stage because it would work well as an alternative advent calendar.
