Synopsis: No more secrets…a dead body’s discovered, and Nancy can’t keep the mystery from her friends any longer. Will telling the truth and getting her crime-solving crew involved help crack the Bayport case before someone else winds up dead?
Review: Kelly Thomson continues her modern-day take on the Nancy Drew mystery series and this latest issue sees things escalate ever so slightly.
After having split off to learn about Pete and the death of his mother. Nancy returns to the team with Pete and they make preparations to investigate the murder of Pete’s mother and find out if it is connected to the recent murders that the kids witnessed.
It seems that meeting Pete and returning to Bayport has unearthed some unresolved issues that Nancy had with the accidental death of her mother. Thankfully her friend George is on hand to console her, but Pete overhears and has some feelings of guilt for drawing Nancy back to Bayport to open an investigation into his mother’s death.
The issue closes out as Nancy delegates tasks to her friends and they all set off to look for any leads they can find. Bess volunteers to investigate the effects and whereabouts of a drug called EXCESS. While Nancy and Pete hit a few leads before heading to his late mother’s place of employment.
Overall. This is another strong mission, which brings the team back together and unites them in an end goal. Nancy’s newfound friendship with Pete continues to blossom and we close out as they are about to hit upon another exciting lead.
The artwork from Jen St-onge continues to impress and has a rather Saturday morning cartoon feel to it with a touch of anime. I also liked her drawings of the various locations throughout Bayport. Specifically the old workplace of Pete’s mother, which looks like a pretty roughneck place to hang out.
