Don’t miss this all-new adventure, guest-starring Jaylah from STAR TREK BEYOND, and the cast from the hit STARFLEET ACADEMY series!
Review: This first issue of a new arc ties up a few of the loose ends left hanging in the last issue.
Lt Vallas has now handed in her notice to the Federation for a life on Romulus as a member of the Tal Shiar. The moment in which she hands her notice to Kirk is sandwiched into a plot, which sees Captain Tyrell warning Federation delegates about the threat posed by the Borg and a tense conference on Babel, which if you know your trek. Always spells trouble.
Mike Johnson’s story arc for this issue takes some of the best elements of the Tos episode ‘Journey To Babel’ and ‘Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country’ and cobbles them together.
But the real treat is the role that Jaylah gets to play.
When a Romulan delegate is murdered it begins a chain of events that lead to Jaylah’s academy classmate Shev being accused of the murder. What Jaylah does in response to this terrible news is very typical of the young woman that many fans embraced in ‘Star Trek Beyond’.
The art for this issue is an improvement over what we had last issue.
Taking over art duties is Megan Levens who is a little more consistent with her likenesses of the characters.
I particularly enjoyed what she did with the panel where the Romulan diplomat is murdered. Especially the close up work as the poison begins to take hold.
Overall this is a promising start to a new arc, which has some likeable characters in the new cadets.
