Synopsis: The epic REBELS AND ROGUES storyline reaches its explosive end! Can THREEPIO save the rock people of K43? Is WARBA the master or the student? Which Champion falls? And how much of LUKE’S desperate plan has DARTH VADER foreseen from the beginning? The search for a new rebel base continues!
Review: The story concludes and leaves things at an interesting crossroads as we see a Rebel ship hovering above the atmosphere of Hoth.
Luke and Chewbacca take on Lord Vader in order to buy some time for Han and the others to arrive. Chewie and Vader struggle, but Vader is injured from the energy surge, which the rock people of K43 managed to create so he is not at full strength. As Han and the others arrive they organize a coordinated attack on Vader in order to help Luke and Chewie getaway. The Rock People having seen that C3P0 cares for his humanoids decide to lend a hand in making it possible for them to get away, but it is at the cost of their planet.
Phil Noto continues to knock it out of the park with his artwork. The battle between Chewbacca and Darth Vader is epic and something that as a fan I never thought I’d ever see, which is the strength of comics given that stuff can be done in them that we can never imagine seeing on the TV or in Cinema. I also loved how the rock people get involved by using the rebel mines rather creatively.
This was a pretty satisfying conclusion to the story and leaves thinks in just the right place for our heroes to find their next base, which will eventually be on the Planet Hoth, but what happens once they are on Hoth? Will we get a few prequel stories on the planet that will build up to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and if that is the case. Will we get a rehash of Empire Strikes Back in comic book form that tells the story from a slightly different perspective.
Overall. This final chapter of the arc felt a tiny bit rushed, but thankfully it was still satisfying to read.
Either way. Whatever happens. I’m sticking with this until Marvel decide to end the ongoing. But it would be great to actually advance the story forward so new fans can see what happens between films as well as events that happen in post Return of the Jedi. Maybe show us how the First Order came to be.
