Synopsis: As Pat teaches Courtney, Yolanda, Beth and Rick the importance of teamwork, the ISA converge to figure out who is trying to take them down.
Pat tries to provide Courtney and her friends with the training that they need for working as a team, but Courtney’s impatience puts a dampener on things and Pat is forced to rethink. Meanwhile, Cindy Burman is becoming bored with running the school and is tired of following Henry King Jr around. Courtney seems to bond with Cindy over chemistry class, but when a better offer comes along the friendship proves a none starter.
While Courtney is becoming more impatient with Pat’s training. Cindy is becoming impatient with her father’s expectations of her and wants in with the Injustice Society. She sees her chance to impress when she spots Stargirl nosing around where she shouldn’t be. So taking a chance to impress Cindy dons her late mother’s costume and becomes Shiv, and an epic showdown begins.
There are a few great performances in this episode as we begin to learn more about Cindy Burman and her alter ego of Shiv. Meg DeLacy has been impressing for a few weeks now as the bitchy and spoiled Cindy, who happens to be the daughter of Dragan King. This week DeLacy gets to play a few big scenes with Dragan King as she tries to force her way into the ISA, but with little luck.
We also got a great scene between Courtney and her stepbrother Mike who feels that she is monopolizing his father’s time and confronts her about it. Trae Romano and Brec Bassinger do a fantastic job with this scene, which has me wondering if Pat and Courtney will be forced to let Mike in on the secret that they are trying to keep.
This proved to be a pretty exciting episode, which gives us some more character development for the principal heroes as well as a massive bit of character work on Cindy, who is going to prove to be one of the more interesting villains as Shiv.
I rather enjoyed the brief scene we got of Pat trying to train Courtney and her friends and quite enjoyed how he was trying to brief them all about the various different members of the ISA. T
Overall. A good set up episode for Shiv’s introduction to the series. I’m looking forward to seeing how much things will escalate in next week’s show. The question is did Shiv hear Pat shouting Courtney’s name when she left the scene?
