Synopsis: This month in Stranger Things: Science Camp. While Dustin continues to prove his mettle as a Dungeons and Dragons DM to prove a point to new-found camp bullies, the counselors of Camp Know Where have been disappearing one by one. When Suzie and Dustin discover the older teenagers running the camp are the targets of a sinister plot, they decide to solve the mystery on their own.
The Story
Picking the story up from the last issue. Dustin is still busying himself with a Dungeons and Dragons game but is finding the maths of science camp much easier. Additionally, Suzie who tried to befriend Dustin has gone back to the camp Counselor that advised her to find that she has vanished. Furthermore, another of the counselors has barely escaped an attack. With things being a lot more serious than a simple game of Dungeons and Dragons. It’s down to Dustin and Suzie to bring the camp together and investigate.
Artwork
Edgar Salazar, Keith Champagne, and Marissa Louise continue to do great things with the artwork, inking, and colors. The standout for this issue is the sequence of panels done partially in shadow where we see the camp’s killer getting ready to strike again. This moment felt a little like a device that Alfred Hitchcock would have used in one of his movies to build tension. Nicely done.
Overall
Jodie Houser continues to impress with her great characterization and knowledge of 80s slasher films. I really enjoyed the second meeting of Dustin and Suzie and how they have very quickly set themselves up to be a team.
The story continues to feel like a chapter of Stranger Things, that could have happened between series. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Dustin and Suzie go about tracking down the camps killer while managing to avoid getting into strife.
