Supergirl realizes that in order to stop Lex and Leviathan she must work with the one person she never thought she’d trust again—Lena.

Synopsis: Supergirl realizes that in order to stop Lex and Leviathan she must work with the one person she never thought she’d trust again—Lena.

The Story

Lex and Leviathan are about to launch the biggest Virtual Reality event ever in order to end the world. Supergirl must trust in Lena and her friends in order to help defeat Leviathan and save the world, but it is no simple task. Thankfully Brainiac who has been working with Lex, but has finally come to his senses holds the key to defeating the immortal gods of Levitan, but his plan requires great sacrifice.

The Acting

This final episode of the season finally brings Kara and Lena back together again and the performances from Melissa Benoist and Katie McGrath make the reconciling of Supergirl and Lena Luther believable, but it isn’t until the scene where we see Lena talk Acrata down from her mission that the reconciliation is really sold.

For my money. The performance that really made this episode flow so well came from Jesse Rath who as Brainiac gets to save the day. We get a returning guest appearance from Jesse’s sister  Meaghan Rath who helps him on his mission to sabotage the plans of Lex Luther and Leviathan.

Overall

It seems that the writers got lucky in that they were able to end the fifth season on a fairly good note in spite of the rush they had to put into production due to the COVID 19 virus.

We got some brilliant action sequences as Supergirls friends took on Rama Khan and his two fellow gods in some great battle sequences, which saw the evil gods bend the elements to their whims. But it was the morality play that plays out amid the fight sequences that made this finale work. The scene where Supergirl goes into Virtual Reality to convince nearly 2 million users to leave their virtual versions of heaven played out really well. I really liked how Supergirl’s speech to the VR users was juxtaposed with the speech that Lena makes to Acrata about friendship, truthfulness, and pain.

Overall. A solid finale, which leaves us with a bit of a cliffhanger that we’ll hopefully get to see resolved in early 2021 when The CW hopes to be showing the 6th season.
