Review: Things get very complicated for Abby as Matt learns the truth about Alec.
The Story
Picking things up from last week. Avery has sent some hunters after Swamp Thing with a view to capturing him so that Woodrue can run some experiments on him. Unfortunately for the hunters. Swamp Thing is much stronger than they are and not to be messed with.
Avery pushed Woodrue into escalating his experiments, which leads the scientist to test some of Swamp Things genetic materials on Daniel Cassidy, who has been brought in after taking a beating to defend Liz Tremayne from some of Avery’s thugs.
Elsewhere, Matt has discovered that his mother has been covering things up for Avery and has opted to work for him in order to protect his mother, but Lucille has found out and is not too happy about it. To that end, she sends Matt to the Swamp to investigate what it was that attacked Avery’s hunters. While investigating Matt finds Abby with Swamp Thing and learns that the creature is in fact, Alec.
The Acting
Kevin Durand once again knocks it out of the park as scientist Jason Woodrue who seems to be enthralled to Avery and his whims. The scenes toward the close where a deranged and burning Daniel Cassidy visits his home are really dramatic.
Also good in this episode are Jennifer Beals and Henderson Wade who have a right old ding dong as mother and son when Matt confronts Lucillia about her various dealings with Avery Sunderland.
Overall
This was a really good episode with a lot packed into it. I really enjoyed the backstory that we get for Daniel Cassidy, who appears to have done a deal with the devil in order to expand is Hollywood career. But the deal seems to have kept him in small-town America.
The scene where Matt learns about Swamp Thing is absolutely wonderful as are the events that build up to it.
Things are only going to get more interesting from here on out as Matt’s loyalties will get tested between his work for Avery and his love for Abby.
