Synopsis: When The Boys and Starlight follow a lead to Vought’s mysterious Sage Grove Center, they find one of Vought’s darkest secrets – and someone even darker from their past.

The Story

We get quite a lot of backstory for Frenchie this week, which takes up a lot of the episode. The story gets underway with Starlight going to The Boys with a hot tip, but before she can go on the mission. She needs Frenchie to remove her tracking chip to keep Vought from tracking her movements.

Starlight having had her chip removed tells The Boys about The Sage Grove Center, which is a mental health facility. Moreover, we learn that it is a top-secret Vought research project, which is injecting inmates with Compound V. In order to learn more. The Boys and Starlight break into the facility where a ghost from Frenchy’s past returns to haunt him.

Elsewhere, Stormfront who is in on The Sage Grove Center project is working on getting closer to Homelander. She has a pretty big secret to reveal.

The Acting

We get a brilliant guest appearance from Shawn Ashmore a Lamplighter who has some fantastic scenes with Tomer Capon’s Frenchie. We learn that Lamplight once worked with The Boys, but pretty much betrayed them and welched on the deal he’d made with Grace Mallory.

We also get great performances from Karl Urban and Erin Moriarty as Billy Butcher and Starlight. The two have issues to sort out but suddenly find themselves bonding when Hughie gets seriously injured.

This for my money has to be the best episode we have had thus far. The episode had a nice mix of drama, comedy, and action and did a great job of working in some interesting backstory about the mythology of The Boys. In particular how Frenchie found himself recruited onto the team, which connected to the present-day storyline concerning Lamplight.

Overall. A solid episode that was crammed full of plot and character development for most the key players.
