Synopsis: Barry and Iris plan a romantic dinner for Valentine’s Day but their evening is interrupted by an old foe – Amunet; Frost gets into the holiday spirit and attempts to help Allegra reconnect with an old love.
Review: This episode should also be known as ‘The Valentine’s’ episode, but with a definite twist.
While on their date night. Barry begins to learn a few things he didn’t know about Iris, but before their date has a chance to blossom. They are interrupted by the arrival of Amunet Black who is after some technology that one of the restaurant’s customers has in his briefcase. Barry tries to arrest Amunet, but she threatens to expose him as The Flash, which forces him to back off. Sensing she is onto a story Iris goes after Amunet and learns the truth behind what is going on. It turns out that they have walked in on a lover’s tiff between Amunet and her Ex Gold Face.
Meanwhile, Barry is concerned about some of the risks that Iris is taking and finds himself wondering why he does not feel that his connection with her is as strong as it once was prior too Crisis. We the audience, of course, know the reason why, which is reiterated at the close of the episode.
As have often stated in the past. I’m not a huge fan of Katee Sackhoff but she truly shines as Amunet Black and does so again. Granted the accent is rather over the top, but it suits the role that Sackhoff is playing in this show. I really enjoyed the lover’s quarrel between Amunett and Goldface and thought that both Sackhoff and Damion Poitier did an awesome job of selling it.
After weeks of rather tense episodes in terms of all the Crisis stuff that has gone on. This is a breath of fresh air as well as a bit of comic relief, but with a closing scene that reiterates a new mystery and challenge for Barry Allen as to how he will find out that the Iris West Allen he is holding is actually an imposter.
We also get some nice moments for Killer Frost who tries to play matchmaker by getting Allegra back with her boyfriend. Her success at it is thanks to some fatherly advice from Harrison ‘Nash’ Wells.
