Synopsis: Reeva prepares to carry out her plan for the Inner Circle, but not everyone is on the same page. Reed struggles to manage his powers and the family realizes that without enough of the serum, it’s only a matter of time before he completely loses control.
Review: The season 2 finale sees one character make the ultimate sacrifice while another that we believed dead makes a dramatic reappearance.
With the Struckers now reunited the remains of the Mutant Underground begin to make plans to put an end to Reeva’s plans, but it looks like Reeva is a step ahead having used her contact with Benedict Ryan to send the Purifiers to their hideout. This diversion allows the Frost Sisters and a reluctant Esme to grab Lauren and Andy and make them destroy Reeva’s targeted building.
With Andy and Lauren at the mercy of The Frost sisters. Thunderbird creates a daring diversion to allow Reed, Polaris, Eclipse and Kate a chance at escape so they can hopefully go after Andy and Lauren.
From that point out all hell breaks loose and a fair few mutant and none mutant casualties are created, but it all moves the plot along quite nicely for what will be an interesting third season.
Stephen Moyer puts in a wonderful performance as Reed who tries to hide the fact that he is losing control from those around him. We also get some flashbacks to what was happening in the Strucker household during the time of the first Mutant attack.
Also really good this week is Skyler Samuels as all three Frost sisters, but it is her performance as Esme who has a redemption storyline going on that particularly impresses. I look forward to seeing how the writers use Esme in the shows third season.
A cracking season two finale, which has some shocking moments, but puts into place some building blocks for a newly rebooted Mutant Underground and sees the surprising return of Blink, who we thought had perished a few weeks ago.
Give what has happened and what pieces still remain in play. I look forward to seeing how things will develop in the third season, but I think it will take something really special to top what we have seen in season 2.
